1. EFCC arrests former DSS boss, Ita Ekpeyong
Mr. Ita Ekpenyong, a former Director-General of the Department of State Security Service, has, on Thursday, been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegation of N17billion fraud in the agency.
The arrest was said to be part of ongoing probe of the sacked DG of the agency, Lawal Daura.
2. Sagay insists Saraki must resign as a mark of honour
The Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) Prof. Itse Sagay, has advised the embattled Senate President, Bukola Saraki to resign his seat as a matter of honour.
Prof. Sagay,however, confirmed that the cross-carpet of the Senate President from the All Progressive Congress (APC) to the People Democratic Party does not invalidate his seat as the Senate President.
3. National Assembly would reconvene on Tuesday
The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Yussuff Lasun has announced that the National Assembly will suspend its recess and reconvene on Tuesday, August 14.
According to him, the presidential budget request to fund INEC’s operations for the 2019 polls, would be the prominent agenda that would be looked into by the legislature.
4. Saraki meets chairmen of 45 political parties
The President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki yesterday, met with chairmen of forty five different political leaders in the country in Abuja.
The meeting held in the senate president’s office at the National Assembly complex.
5. Melaye absent in court again, claims ill health
Senator representing Kogi West in the Senate, Dino Melaye, is again absent from court on reported health grounds.
The Senator did not appear in court on Wednesday to answer the charges bordering possession of arms trafficking levied against him and two others.
6. Tinubu lied, we have no plans to impeach Buhari – Sen. Misau
The Senator representing Bauchi Central, Isah Hamma Misau, has debunked the claim made in Uyo by the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu that the National Assembly was planning to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari.
